London meetup 2026
Yesterday I met up with a few Hivers in London. This is my second meetup this year after Alicante in May. We met up at a local pub for lunch first where @shanibeer who organised the meetup, highlighted the loos worth checking out. She was right!
The pub itself was nice, and it was good to see you can still get a decent lunch for under £10 in London. You can see more of the pub and our meetup from @adetorrent's post here.
After lunch, we headed over to our meeting venue. It was actually the office of a charity organisation where @shanibeer works. She had arranged access over the weekend and we had the whole place to ourselves. We could have held HiveFest here 😄
@shanibeer even arranged tea and coffee and biscuits for us. A must at any British meeting.
We hung around at the meeting area at one end of the office. There was a big table there, and I lay out some Hive merch I bought with me. @steevc also bought some, and together we had a good selection of items. It was popular with the others who had not been to a HiveFest before.
There was no agenda, just casual chatting amongst a group of friends about things in general, both on and off chain, but generally off chain more, the state of things in UK, the impact of AI on life etc...
On AI, @adetorrent talked about how he gets different AIs to talk to each other and see what kind of shenanigans they get up to. He did a demo with two different AI on two mobile phones and got them to role play Ned and a disgruntled user who has lost a lot of money on Shistxxm. It was very interesting to listen to their conversation and see how they interacted. I'm going to try this as well!
Those who know @steevc will know he's a bit of a musician. He bought along a synthesiser as @nicklewis who was originally going to join us is into synthesisers as well. Unfortunately he couldn't make it.
Other attendees included @shanibeer of course. @davidthompson57 who I met some years ago during covid, and @alonicus whom I've had more engagement with recently and I met for the first time. He came with his wife who has a Hive account but isn't active. There were a couple of others who unfortunately couldn't make it last minute, but it was a nice turnout and I think everyone appreciated the meeting.

That all worked out well. I have my issues with Wetherspoons, but they are cheap. The main venue was great and we could have big events there.
Maybe if we can get more people to come we can get some to do presentations.

It sounds like a wonderful meet-up! I'm hoping to make it back to London in '27 it would be great to meet some of the crew. I think the platform needs more of these face-to-face meet-ups to rally more enthusiasm. I met up with some Hivers during my last visit in 2019 and it was the highlight of our trip. @cryptogee and his family took my wife and I around the Portobello Market and @opheliafu and her family took us to some of the museums and Kensington Park. They were so kind and generous with their time both took the better part of the entire day to hang out. Sadly, neither are active here anymore.
When are you in London?
I'm not sure yet. It would likely be either spring or fall, we prefer to travel off-peak when we go overseas. We've always had good luck in May and September.

Yeah, headed over feb 20. It's not easy for me to get to London as it's exy on the train and there's no way we are driving the series land rover! I'm hoping to meet livinguktaiwan there as she's close to my mother in laws place.

Something I wondered is that because AI kind of trains itself to get used to the user and what it normally gets asked to do, does it gradually get better at roleplaying if you keep doing it ?
Also, yes, we'll definitely have to organise more get-togethers 😁 The more I think about it, the more I like @steevc's idea of having some presentations as well as general conversation. With any luck that would bring some structure to the meetup, as well as helping us focus the conversations. It might also help get more people along 😀

I'm glad to see people are still doing this because it looks like HiveFest wasn't very well attended this year. Maybe we will start seeing more of these little meetups in lieu of the bigger conferences until crypto gets exciting again.
It was unfortunate that HiveFest had to be scaled down this year, but either way I couldn't have made it.
It's funny how few people do meet ups, even if it's just with a few other people locally it's worth doing. There doesn't seem to be many in America either, the only ones I've seen are from the silver folks.

No, America is hard because the distances are so huge. You might have pockets of people in larger cities but for the most part we are just spread too far across the country.

Probably the closest one I would actually want to meet with is about an hour and a half away.

There are a lot of Cubans on Hive, have you considered organising a meet up? It helps to meet people in real life even if it's one or two people
As to increasing value to your account, you can try to post content other than actifit to make it more interesting.
Cuba seems like a lovely country despite all the issues you have, perhaps you can show us around ,or let us know how the issues effect you, and how you or others overcome the problems.
Many curators look at how healthy your account is and what you contribute to the platform. In your case, delegating out nearly all your HP is seen as a selfish actions because you are only interested in getting rewards for yourself and you have no HP to support other people. That adds zero value other than to yourself.
