Colour Studies 2 | A Frog and Some Water Droplets

What is the frog is thinking about? Is it patiently waiting for the next raindrop, enjoying the view or simply holding on for dear life?

Hi, welcome to my blog again. For this drawing, I wanted to bring a little bit of nature into my sketchbook, I dont think I've ever done something like this. I drew a frog holding on to a lotus leaf, with a tiny drop of water resting on the leaf. Around the frog, I also added water droplets in different colours.

Now, you might be wondering why the water droplets are red, yellow, green, and black. Well, I needed to fill up the page with something and secondly, I wasn't particularly interested in keeping things realistic, I wanted to play around with colour like I always do and see what would happen if I gave familiar scene an unusual twist.

Water droplets are particularly interesting subjects to draw because they aren't just little circles filled with blue. They catch light, reflect their surroundings and create tiny areas of contrast. Getting them to look like water droplets rather than just simple coloured dots is also part of the fun.

I also wanted a connection between the frog and lotus leaf. The frog holding on to the leaf gives the drawing a little sense of movement, while the single drop sitting on the leaf adds another small detail. I honestly do not know how I managed to pull this off especially the water droplet on the leaf.

I like how this drawing makes me think about the little things we often overlook. A frog sitting on a leaf, a drop of water that hasn't fallen yet, the butterfly with unique color combos, etc. And that's one of the things I enjoy about drawing in general.

I'll continue doing these studies because they give me room to experiment with different subjects, build confidence with colour and learn how to create depth without worrying too much about making everything perfect.

Anyway, I think the frog is having a pretty interesting day. What do you think?
