A Girl and Her Giant Flower

It's a cold morning over here, its been raing for hours and I just remembered I haven’t updated my blog for some days even though I said I'd be more consistent here.

For this drawing, I had an idea to put a girl in baggy clothes beside a giant flower. But instead of colouring the whole thing, I decided to leave the girl as an ink drawing and give the flower all the colour.

Looking at it now, I really like how the two styles sit together on the same page. The girl's oversized clothes have their own shapes and folds to work with, while the flower brings colour and draws attention almost immediately.

Leaving the girl in pencil makes the flower stand out even more. It's almost as if the girl and flower both belong to different worlds. It also feels like she's standing beside something she hasn't quite stepped into yet.

I also didn't need to colour everything for the drawing to feel complete. The contrast between the two subjects is cool. The girl in a relaxed outfit, and the enormous flower that looks like it could belong in a fantasy garden looks just right.

My question is, Would the drawing look better if I coloured the girl too, or does leaving her in pencil make the whole thing more interesting? What do you think?
