Of Investments, Retirement and Such
Met with my best friend yesterday. Her kids are growing up fast, and to keep her youngest connected to the real world instead of the virtual space, they moved from the city to the countryside in June. After the usual chitchat, we shifted our conversation to investment and retirement.
"We ain't getting any younger," she said half-jokingly. "There's no denying that, but we are also getting wiser, aren't we?" I teased. She shared that they are about to acquire a piece of real property in the Ilocos Region. However, they are short on funds, so she thought of us, not for a loan, but to ask if we are interested in purchasing a third of it.
Learning it was in a good location we had been to before (just about a ten-minute drive from the town center, and close to an eco park), I didn't hesitate to show my interest. And with the price, I thought it was a steal. But of course, I still needed to discuss it with my husband, so I didn't confirm it outright.
My sister was enthusiastic when I told her about the offer. The hubby thinks it's a good investment. But we can't just jump in, even if my best friend offered it. Like any other investment opportunity, due diligence is a must. So we will be checking. We also need to re-evaluate our budget and long-term goals.

A decent increase of 12.65k sats, pushing the numbers to 33.1k (61% growth from last week). Yep, we are on track. As for the HIVE, we are waiting for a chance to acquire some back. Not very soon, it seems, but 106 HBD remains liquid for this purpose. There is no rush. Let's leave the market to do its thing and savor the little moments in life instead😉

Are your friends buying the property on speculation? Not sure how you could cash in on the investment by owning a 1/3rd. It seems to me it would need the agreement of your friends in order to cash in. You might want to consider how such a situation could stand the chance of damaging your friendship.
No, not really for speculation. And we would subdivide the property with the specific area each one is acquiring, each having a separate deed from the original owner. So it's not a joint ownership. We'd be neighbors if we decided to turn it into a vacation place :)

Land is definitely a good investment because it tends to appreciate in value over time. But I think it’s even better to think ahead about how you can make the land generate income instead of just letting it sit there unused. That’s just my opinion when it comes to purchasing land. But if you’re into farming, then owning land can be a really great investment.
You're right about thinking ahead. There are a few things in mind (growing fruit trees, etc). We have to see the place first. The area is not for farming, but could potentially be a pit stop for travelers :)
