AI-Supported Management for Type 2 Diabetes!

Management options for diabetes can be divided into three broad categories:

  • Diet
  • Exercise
  • Drugs

Together, the first two are known as lifestyle modification. For many patients, lifestyle modification is sufficient to keep the disease under control, with or without some help from drugs. Those who aren't compliant with the first two need to depend on drugs mostly!

Researchers have been trying to use the technology-driven, AI-Powered intervention to provide person-specific diet and exercise recommendations for diabetics. They have already succeeded in developing a bundled intervention system. It is also called Twin Precision Treatment. In this system, a diabetic uses a wearable sensor and Bluetooth-connected device. The system monitors a person's important vitals, such as blood glucose levels, including a continuous glucose monitor, weight, blood pressure, physical activity, and sleep in real time! Analyzing the data, the AI-Powered system provides highly tailored diet and exercise guidelines!

In this research, 150 participants were chosen; on average, their age was 58.5 years, duration of diabetes was around 9 years, BMI was around 35.1, and HbA1c was around 7.2%. 100 of them were enrolled for the AI-Powered bundle intervention. The rest 50 were given the regular standard management. All of them were given a common drug, and that is metformin.

After 12 months, it was found that in the intervention group, in 71% of the participants, the HbA1c was reduced to less than 6.5%- a desired level for the diabetics. In the other group, only 2.4% of participants enjoyed similar results!

Wednesday Diary

Wednesday was the scheduled EPI vaccine day for my second kid. It was the second vaccine. We went to the nearby government health center at around 7:30 am. Unlike the first vaccine day, everything finished rapidly. At first, a nurse checked the growth parameter. Then, we waited for the vaccine. Within 15 minutes, we were called. We received the vaccine just after 8 am and returned home immediately. By 8:20 am, we are at home!

Due to the above-mentioned work, I changed the morning shift duty. I joined the shift at 9:30 am and continued till 1:30 pm. The evening shift was on regular time, from 4 pm to 8 pm. At work, on Wednesday, I consulted 30 patients. In the visa medical section, I examined some people who came for the fitness test.

At home, I walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes after lunch. It helped me reach 13,249 steps. I skipped the afternoon nap!

Okay. That's all for today. Alhamdulillah, I am alive, healthy, and thriving. How about you?
