So this is for the Evovle a bug contest https://peakd.com/hive-140877/@quatro/contest-sketch-quest--evolve-a-bug-contest Which is really cool you should check it out.

It started with this bug here

$1

https://peakd.com/hive-140877/@artofkylin/volcano-snail-yup-thats-what-it-looks-like

Then I thought about what way it'd evolve. I thought about dragon style stuff, or pulling a dug-trio and have a stack of snails. Or a standard nautilus.

Then it came to me, octopus sorta deal. Perfect.

Then it was time for some thumbnails so I could think about the composition. I decided I wanted volcanos and underwaterness.

$1

After that I started on the actual drawing.

$1

Then some quick blocking in, this lets me see if the composition works and such.

$1

Then I completely changed the way I wanted the snail floating through the water.

$1

Then lots of tweaks.

$1

Then I did volcanos some more. I'm quite pleased with how the top one turned out.

$1

Then the snail got some more shading and textures.

$1
After that some red around the volcanos. And some green in the background for the water.

$1

Which was when I realized I'd kinda messed up the composition a bit.

From there I tweaked the background a bunch, and added some highlights to the front. I'm really happy with how this one turned out.

I was nt expecting an underwater volcanic setting, but it makes sense for a level up. Turning a single snail into this multi tentacled dragon-like creature is pure creativity. The composition with the volcanoes in the background really adds to the drama of the piece. You definitely pushed the limits here
