My favorite cake is a tie between red velvet and carrot cake. Both of made well are heavenly. When done wrong they are horrific.

I agree with you on both of those, if they are made correctly they are heavenly. But I've had some horrible versions of both as well. A good cook is definitely key!
Very true. More bad than good. Fortunately living here we have many good bakeries and restaurants so it’s not typically a bad one. But I’ve had some horrible ones traveling.
I hear you there, the east coast really does have great bakeries. We have some good one here in Orange county, but the really good one is about a 20 minute drive. I got spoiled back east!
