What really happened with The Amazing Spider-Man 3

It's actually a sad thing when Amazing Spiderman trilogy was discontinued. I actually loved the series, but Sony refrained from the series because of unmet expectations. The movie's gross can still be considered huge, it's just that they expected something like 1 billion dollar gross.
