Gone Away is such an underrated pick, Ixnay always gets buried under Smash. wild that the same guy behind Facelift was doing Offspring a few years later

Dude exactly!! You get it!
I agree 100%. Especially with it also being followed by the Americana record so it’s in middle of that and Smash, it definitely gets overlooked a lot. I remember Gone Away getting a lot of play on alternative rock station but overall the album “bombed” by commercial standards. I think it’s a great record overall for sure.
Dave was a great rock producer, unfortunately rumor is he got really into drugs late nineties and he didn’t do as much post 1998. The band Goldfinger who worked with him right after Americana session, said he was definitely on H & outta it. He did a pop pop band (MxPx) album in 2003 and I think it’s nowhere near as good as the nineties stuff. Maybe half the bands fault but regardless he did some amazing records for sure! Even as an assistant engineer in the eighties he was on some cool records.
